Hemodialysis Adequacy

View K-DOQI 2015 Update: Guidelines for Hemodialysis Adequacy in Chronic Renal Disease.

The concern over the high morbidity and mortality of dialysis patients lead the renal community to develop a set of rigorous clinical practice guidelines aimed at changing nephrology practice patterns and thereby improve patient outcomes. Within the hemodialysis adequacy category, the Dialysis Outcomes Quality Initiative focuses on the minimum delivered dose and the prescribed dose of hemodialysis. Specifically, it has been determined by consensus that dialysis care teams should deliver a Kt/V of at least 1.2 (single-pool, variable-volume) for adult hemodialysis patients. For those using the URR, the delivered dose should be equivalent to a Kt/V of 1.2, i.e. an average URR of 65%.
