 The Patient Leadership Committee

The Patient Leadership Committee (PLC) is a dynamic group of patients, family members and facility staff that works to respond directly to patient needs through the creation of high quality patient resources. The PLC also helps The Renal Network understand which areas of patient needs are most salient, which service delivery processes work and where to fine tune.

The PLC represents a cross section of patient treatment groups and modalities and as such provides a voice for all patients in The Renal Network area. Through the inclusion of staff, the PLC provides a safe environment for the mutual identification of patient needs and a cooperative venue in which to address them. The participation of family members provides a unique view into effects of renal failure on the patient's spouse, children and extended family members.

The PLC is goal-directed, task-focused and product-oriented. Its members meet four times a year. Each year committee members identify a number of patient needs it wishes to address. It then divides into working sub-groups and each group selects a project. The resources developed are then available to all patients and staff and are distributed by the facility's Patient Advisory Council representative and the social workers of facilities.

The Patient Leadership Committee is a key component to addressing patient needs within The Renal Network. They provide a voice for all patients in our network area and keep The Renal Network abreast of services and resources needed at the local levels.
