Program Overview

Decreasing Dialysis Patient-Provider Conflict (DPC) is a national collaborative effort involving multiple ESRD stakeholders and all of the ESRD networks and is funded by CMS. For a complete overview of the project, read the Consensus Conference Final Report.

Program Timeline

  • Poster sent Summer 2005 to all network facilities. The poster should be displayed in a staff area where they can refer to the keys for resolving conflict at a moments notice.
  • Toolbox sent October 2005 to the Nurse Manager in all network facilities
  • Train-the-Trainer Programs began in November 2005

The Toolbox

The Toolbox contains a DPC Provider Manual with an orientation and suggestions for staff training, along with several training modules and quality improvement tools related to tracking and reducing conflict.

It also contains:

  • a brochure entitled decreasing conflict & BUILDING BRIDGES,
  • a pocket guide of the poster,
  • a CD-ROM titled DPC CONFLICT Interactive Training Program, and
  • a CD-ROM titled DPC Conflict Resolution Resources for Dialysis Professionals Program Documents.

Network Resources

The Network's Alternative Solutions brochure provides staff with suggestions for alternatives to patient dismissal. Provides case scenarios and specific tips on alternative approaches that might be helpful. Download a copy.
