The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), formerly known as the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA), is the federal agency responsible for administering several health and health-related programs, including:
- Medicare
- Medicaid
- HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)
- the ESRD Networks
CMS contracts The Renal Network, Inc. to provide oversight of dialysis and transplant centers in Network 4 (Pennsylvania and Delaware), Network 9 (Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio) and Network 10 (Illinois).
